Despite heavy rains, which dented the resolve of tear-gas firing police personnel, PTI workers managed to reach the sight symbolizing its ascendancy to power.

With pitched battles being fought between the party and security personnel in the streets, added chaos was witnessed with the Inspector General Punjab Police claiming that direct gunshots were aimed at police personnel.

To add even more volatility to the situation, KP CM Gandapur was nowhere to be seen after leading his caravan of protectors to Islamabad.

The PTI claims that the Chief Minister was "abducted" and arrested by police, whereas the government denies this assertion, choosing to remain tight-lipped about his whereabouts.

The previous PTI CM for KP, Khattak, who led similar protests in D-Chowk Islamabad, drifted away from the party, forming his own faction and splinter group.

A similar impression is being given by the government with regards Gandapur, with repeated news about his disappearances on different occasions, as the government gears up to muster a two thirds majority in Parliament to pass a Constitutional amendment.

Meanwhile, PTI has announced that the protests will continue till party workers are called off by Imran Khan, marking an ominous similarity to the dharnas and sit ins which ushered PTI to power previously.

Thus, security forces and the army that has been called in for SCO Summit security may find little option but to engage with Imran Khan to ask him to call off protestors from the capital.

It is pertinent to note that with the SC judgement on floor crossing and horse trading, the coalition government is not a critical party to any future negotiations concerning security, given it has a clear path to dictate terms in Parliament and to force a Constitutional government.

The army, therefore, after being called out to patrol the streets in aid of law and order, is left stumped and red faced to grapple with PTI, without holding any tools to negotiate with, other than the release of Imran Khan and his wife - a move that will nevertheless remain a stop gap arrangement, as the political architeure remains poised for a massive showdown.
